Sarah Carter’s estranged father Elliot shows up unexpectedly with painful news. As the man plans an extended visit and causes trouble throughout town, it becomes evident why he was separated from his daughter’s family for so many years., Sarah Carter’s imposing father visits Walnut Grove, demanding they move back to New York. He tries to ‘buy’ the boys’ affection, but Sarah doesn’t rise to it., Sarah’s strong-willed publisher father tries to persuade the Carters to move to New York and exerts a maleficent influence on Sarah’s little country weekly.
