Nag Aswhin, the director of Kalki 2898 AD, recently discussed the Hollywood films that inspired his work. Is Harry Potter one of them?
Kalki 2898 AD was released on June 27, and continues to captivate audiences. Fans are gushing nonstop over the film, from the visual effects to the storyline. Nag Ashwin directed the film, which stars giants such as Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Disha Patani. Even though Kamal Haasan’s screen time in Kalki 2898 AD was limited, the actor has confirmed that fans would see far more of him in the sequel. Many people have expressed interest in Yaskin’s appearance. In a recent interview, Nag Ashwin shared the idea for the characters.
In a recent interview, Nag Ashwin discussed his inspiration from Hollywood movies. There were rumours that Kamal Haasan‘s character Yaskin’s appearance was inspired by Harry Potter character Lord Voldermont. Nag Ashwin stated that there is no connection between the two. He stated that the references came from old Tibetan monks who are thought to be 120-130 years old. He stated that Kamal Haasan cited the image of Dorain Grey, which inspired him. He elaborated: “We didn’t have many movie references for that ancient look.”
Nag Ashwin also discussed drawing inspiration from Marvel’s Iron Man. He explained, “We grew up watching Marvel pictures. I believe Guardians of the Galaxy had a greater influence than Iron Man. Star Wars is undeniably influential. I adore Star Wars, thus it is unconsciously a part of my aesthetic.” He also mentioned that Harshith Reddy’s character Luke was influenced by Star Wars’ Luke Skywalker.
Kalki 2898 AD‘s box office collection has already surpassed Rs 500 crore nett. Even in its second weekend, the film has done extremely well at the box office. In terms of worldwide collection, Kalki 2898 AD has surpassed the 800 crore mark. The film is projected to break the Rs 1000 crore mark soon and become one of the highest-grossing films of 2024.
