The film ‘Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba’ explores the dark side of romance
“Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba,” the sequel to the 2021 thriller Haseen Dillruba, dives into the complex dynamics of love and betrayal with a mix of pulp fiction aesthetics. Directed by Jayaprad Desai and written by Kanika Dhillon, the film brings back Taapsee Pannu as Rani, alongside Vikrant Massey and newcomers like Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Shergill.
The story picks up with Rani and Rishu (Massey) trying to lead a new life, but their plans are complicated by the entry of Abhimanyu (Kaushal), who becomes entangled in their twisted love story.
The film, while engaging, struggles with predictability and lacks the sharp twists that defined its predecessor. Despite its flaws, the performances, especially by Kaushal, offer some redeeming moments, making it a watchable yet flawed continuation.
Set against the backdrop of a fictionalized Agra, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba presents a web of love, deception, and murder, enhanced by its atmospheric visuals and pulp fiction vibe. The film explores the dark side of romance, but its plot occasionally drags and loses momentum, making it less gripping than expected.
Despite this, the film’s stylish direction and the chemistry between the leads keep viewers engaged. Fans of the genre may still appreciate its layered narrative and the return of familiar characters, even if it falls short of its predecessor’s impact.
