The teams encounter bears on Afognak Island., The 3 remaining teams travel to Afognak Island, 700-square miles of wilderness ruled by the supersized Kodiak Brown Bear., With only a few days left in the expedition, the explorers travel to Admiralty Island, home to one of the highest density densities of brown bears in North America. The men arrive at prime feeding time when hungry brown bears are devouring everything in their paths before the winter. For this leg, they will travel by water and land, paddling and portaging two-man kayaks across the island. Iditarod champion Dallas Seavey and his brother Tyrell are the first on the water. But when a series of setbacks puts Dallas in over his head, the team must turn to the Raney’s for help. Mountain man Marty Raney and his son Matt plan to take a secret shortcut will that shave hours off the trip. But to do so, the men must leave the safety of the water and carry their boats through the heart of brown bear country. Brent Sass and Tyler Johnson are set on redeeming themselves after nearly getting stranded in the Wrangell Mountains on leg 9. Unfortunately, their streak of bad luck has not ended, and they risk missing the extraction LZ for a second time, and quite possibly, their last. Expert climber Willi Prittie and survivalist Austin Manelick choose to take the longer route that keeps them on the water, and away from bear danger. But an unexpected injury leaves the team immobile on the riverbanks, and stranded at the will of hungry brown bears., The teams race across a wild island ruled by hungry brown bears. With danger at every turn, who will escape first to win leg nine of the gruelling race?, It’s man versus bear as the three remaining teams travel to Afognak Island – 1126 square kilometres of wilderness ruled by the Kodiak brown bear.
