The Wolf Man bears no relation to the much-later Lon Chaney Jr. horror vehicle of the same name. The principal character is a pottery manufacturer named Grinde (Ralph Lewis), who is known as the Wolf Man because of his ruthless professional practices. When one of his subordinates develops a revolutionary new pottery-glazing process, Grinde tries to cheat the man out of his commission by ordering his foreman Mole to steal the blueprints. Once Mole carries out his dirty work, he is murdered by Grinde, who doesn’t believe in witnesses. But Grinde eventually outsmarts himself, whereupon the benefits accrued by the new glazing process are reaped by his young assistant David and David’s sweetheart Mae. A genuine pottery plant was utilized as “atmosphere” in The Wolf Man, though the film’s “money scene,” in which David and Mae are nearly suffocated by poison gas, was shot in the Reliance studio.
