Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan‘s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ was a remake of a Malayalam film. Like ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, its original film also earned bumper box office and was a superhit. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, directed by Priyadarshan, was a remake of the 1993 Malayalam film ‘Manichitrathazhu’. It was recreated scene to scene in Hindi.

Mohanlal‘s film ‘Manichitrathazhu’ proved to be a superhit at the box office and earned a bumper amount. Made in a meagre budget of 35 lakhs, this film earned 7 crores, which was 20 times more than the budget. ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ had a budget of 32 crores and this film earned 50 crores at the box office.
The film got a great rating of 7.4 on IMDb. Its original film has been given a rating of 8.7. ‘Manichitrathazhu’ has not only got one remake but remakes have been made in many languages.
