Sanjay Mishra Interview: Actor Sanjay Mishra’s voice is such that people can recognise him even with their eyes closed. This voice is being heard in theatres these days as the voice of the timeless character Pumbaa in the film ‘Mufasa: The Lion King‘.

Actor Sanjay Mishra, who reached Mumbai from Darbhanga via Banaras, has a voice that people recognize him even with their eyes closed. This voice is being heard in cinemas these days as the voice of the timeless character Pumba in the film ‘Mufasa‘. Amar Ujala’s consulting editor Pankaj Shukla had this exclusive conversation with Sanjay Mishra.

How do you like the character of Pumbaa in the story of ‘Mufasa’ that has been going on for ages?

When I first saw the first film ‘The Lion King’, I liked both Pumbaa and Timon very much. When this work came to us here, it was nice that we were called for dubbing the dialogues, not for voice over. This is a famous character and other people have already dubbed it.

And, you have dubbed for this character in the film ‘Lion King’ as well…

Every actor is aware of the fact that his fans might start comparing this new film with his previous film. I was also afraid that people might start saying things like ‘Jo woh tha na, woh woh tha’. So all the things like ‘Sab Dhakka’, ‘Pudina’ etc. came to mind. But all I had to do was to respect me in front of children, because this character is very popular among children. The film is famous all over the world.

When did you meet Amitabh Bachchan for the first time on a shoot?

I had shot an ad film with Bachchan ji a long time ago. The day I got the chance to shoot that ad film, I was very restless. I kept feeling like urinating but there was no vanity or anything at the place where the shoot was going on. When we asked about the toilet, we were directed to a narrow lane built along a wall. We went there and returned. We couldn’t do it.
