Actor Abhishek Kumar, widely known for his stint on Bigg Boss 17

Abhishek Kumar recently made headlines for sharing a deeply personal and traumatic experience from his early days in the entertainment industry. Speaking candidly on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limabachiyaa’s podcast, Abhishek revealed an incident that left him feeling suicidal, shedding light on the darker side of the industry.

Early Struggles in Mumbai

In 2018, Abhishek Kumar left his home in Delhi, where he was pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, to chase his dreams in Mumbai. Without informing his parents, he arrived in the city of dreams, only to face harsh realities. Abhishek recounted how he managed to survive on a tight budget, often spending just Rs 70 on food and walking long distances to attend auditions. Despite these hardships, he remained determined to make a mark in the industry.

The Casting Couch Incident

Abhishek’s journey took a distressing turn when he encountered a casting couch situation. “I had lied and come here. When I came to Mumbai, I met a gay person, he tried to do something inappropriate with me and I ran away from there. I returned home that very day on a general ticket, this was after two and half months. I told my parents about it later,” he shared. This incident left him feeling vulnerable and desperate, contemplating suicide due to the fear of being judged.

Overcoming Rejection and Finding Support

The actor also spoke about his struggles with rejection during auditions. Despite a poor audition performance where he fumbled multiple times, he was selected, which raised his suspicions about the authenticity of the selection process. “I had given an audition, it was bad. I had fumbled at least 10 times during it and still, I was selected. So I wondered how it happened. Then I thought maybe it was because of my looks, but it was all fake,” he said.

Feeling isolated and judged, Abhishek confided in his mother, who provided much-needed support. “I was in such a situation that I would have committed suicide because who could I go and tell? I feared being judged, so I told my mother, she started crying and asked me to return at once,” he recalled.

A Journey Marked by Determination

Abhishek’s path to stardom was not easy. From being a crowd member in films to securing a lead role in the show Udaariyaan, his determination never wavered. He also shared a poignant moment from his school days when he expressed his desire to become an actor to his father, only to face harsh opposition. “I was crying as I told my father, one day the world will know you by my name,” he added. Despite the initial resistance, Abhishek’s relationship with his father eventually improved.

Looking Ahead

Currently, Abhishek is in Romania, participating in the stunt-based reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, hosted by Rohit Shetty. His journey serves as an inspiration, highlighting the resilience required to overcome personal and professional challenges in the pursuit of one’s dreams.

Abhishek Kumar‘s story is a testament to the strength it takes to navigate the entertainment industry. His candid revelations bring to light the often unspoken struggles faced by aspiring actors, reminding us of the importance of support and perseverance in the face of adversity.
