The documentary series Apollo 13 Survival is based on an occurrence that occurred in the 1970s, when Apollo 13 was planned as the third mission to land humans on the moon. However, everything changed when an explosion damaged the spacecraft’s service module, resulting in a limited supply of oxygen in space. This shifted the entire focus of the flight.
The spacecraft was launched from Keneddy Space Centre on April 11, 1970, however the lunar landing was cut short because an oxygen tank in the service module (SM) ruptured two days into the mission, rendering the electrical and life-support systems inoperable.
