Born Wilbert Francisco Cobbs on June 16, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, Cobbs’ early life included service in the U.S. Air Force and various jobs, including working for IBM and as a car salesman. His passion for acting led him to New York City at the age of 36, where he began his professional career in theater.

Cobbs’ film debut came in 1974 with “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.” He went on to appear in over 190 films and television shows, including notable roles in “The Brother from Another Planet” (1984), “The Color of Money” (1986), and “Night at the Museum” (2006). His television credits included “I’ll Fly Away,” “The Sopranos,” and “The Michael Richards Show.”

Cobbs was known for his versatility and ability to bring depth to every role he played, earning respect and admiration in the industry. He starred in various genres, showcasing his talent in dramas, comedies, and family films alike.
