Cannes Film Festival: Anasuya Sengupta and Omara Shetty bring desi glitz to red carpet

Cannes Film Festival: Walking the red carpet this week was the cast of The Shameless, which had its world premiere at the event.

Cannes Film Festival Updates: The global debut of Bulgarian-American director Konstantin Bojanov‘s film The Shameless, which stars two relative rookies, Anasuya Sengupta and Omara Shetty, took place in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The two performers participated in the film’s photocall and walked the red carpet at Cannes.

In addition to serving as a production designer for films including Sanjeev Sharma’s Saat Uchakkey (2016) and Srijit Mukherji’s Forget Me Not from the anthology Ray (2021), Anasuya Sengupta previously acted in Anjan Dutta’s Madly Bangalee (2009). Omara Shetty, meanwhile, has starring roles in the 2022 film Phone Bhoot, starring Katrina Kaif.

The official logline of The Shameless is, “In the dead of night, Renuka escapes from a Delhi brothel after stabbing a policeman to death,” according to the festival website. 

“In northern India, she seeks safety in a group of prostitutes, where she meets Devika, a young girl destined for a life of prostitution. Their friendship grows into an illicit relationship. Together, they set out on a treacherous quest to elude justice and pave their own route to liberation.” Anasuya Sengupta portrays Renuka, while Omara Shetty plays Devika.

Omara Shetty wore Chopard jewels with a gorgeous silver Louis Vuitton gown that she picked out for the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival. Anasuya Sengupta, on the other hand, selected a dress with a black and red print from the Calcutta-based designer brand Bobo. Anasuya Sengupta donned a silver dress that Arjun Saluja designed for the photocall. 

Omara Shetty had in a white ensemble. “The Shameless Photocall, May 17, 2024: A day I will always, always remember. “Many thanks to @festivaldecannes!” Anasuya Sengupta posted on her Instagram account.
