Michle Mouton is the most well-known female rally driver of all time and arguably the most successful female in all of motor racing. She was the first (and so far the only) woman to win a round of the World Rally Championship, the Rallye Sanremo in 1981. She went on to finish a close second overall in the 1982 World Rally Championship after wins in Portugal, Brazil and Acropolis. She also has taken part in the 1975 24 Hours of Le Mans, on an all-female team. In this video she and fellow Rally champion driver Markku Aln demonstrate the techniques and dangers of this most difficult of all-around driving challenges. In an exciting comparison sequence shot on an army tank testing range in Germany, Mouton in her World Championship Audi Quatro, with onboard gyro-stabilized cameras, demonstrates the extraordinary skills that took her to the peak of world rallying. This classic rally video was made in cooperation with the Lancia and Audi Teams and the RAC.
