Darshan allegedly borrowed ₹40 lakh to bribe others to take the blame and destroy evidence
Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been arrested in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old auto driver. The investigation revealed that Darshan and several associates were involved in the kidnapping and brutal killing of Renukaswamy. The motive for the murder stemmed from Renukaswamy’s derogatory comments on social media about actress Pavithra Gowda, who is closely associated with Darshan.
The police found that Renukaswamy was lured to a location in Bengaluru under the pretext of meeting Darshan. Upon arrival, he was tortured and murdered. Forensic evidence and witness testimonies indicate that Darshan directly participated in the assault, using a belt to beat Renukaswamy until he lost consciousness. His associates continued the assault, which resulted in multiple severe injuries and ultimately led to Renukaswamy’s death.
In a bid to cover up the crime, Darshan allegedly borrowed ₹40 lakh to bribe others to take the blame and destroy evidence. This money was used to pay associates and manage the crime scene, with attempts to mislead the investigation by presenting the murder as a result of a financial dispute.
This case has drawn significant media attention and public scrutiny, highlighting the influence and darker aspects of celebrity culture in the region. The Kannada film fraternity has been largely silent, with few members expressing either support or condemnation of Darshan. The ongoing investigation continues to uncover more details, with the police working to ensure that all involved are held accountable.
