Kangana Ranaut has unveiled the trailer for her much-anticipated film Emergency, where she stars as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film, directed and produced by Ranaut, explores the tumultuous period of the Indian Emergency from 1975 to 1977.

Ranaut describes Indira Gandhi’s life as a “Shakespearean tragedy,” drawing parallels between the complex, often contradictory nature of Gandhi’s leadership and the themes found in Shakespeare’s work.

The film aims to delve into the personal and political turmoil Gandhi faced during this controversial period, portraying her as a leader trapped by the very power she once wielded with confidence.

The trailer showcases a gripping narrative with a focus on the psychological and emotional strain Gandhi endured, blending political drama with deeply personal storytelling. Emergency is set for release on September 6, 2024, and features an ensemble cast including Anupam Kher and Shreyas Talladege.
