Imtiaz Ali explained why he depicts women as more resilient in his films
Imtiaz Ali, the director, has discussed how he handles the male and female characters in his films differently. Imtiaz stated in an interview that the male roles are not based on his personal experiences. He went on to say that he believes women possess “greater intelligence and resilience.”
Imtiaz Ali explained the reason behind the depiction of women as more resilient in his films. He stated, “The characters, namely Aditya Dharamraj Kashyap in Jab We Met, Janardan-Jordan-Jakhar in Rockstar, Gautam or Gutlu Kapoor in Cocktail, or even Ved Vardhan Sahni in Tamasha, are not directly derived from my life experiences.”
“It’s not as though I have only witnessed men making problems for themselves and women stepping up to fix them,” he continued. “Though I do believe that women are more resilient and intelligent than men. Maybe seeing more women in leadership roles in society is my goal, and it shows in my films. Imtiaz talked about the roles that Saif Ali Khan in Cocktail, Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar and Tamasha, and Shahid Kapoor in Jab We Met, played in his movie.”
In 2005, Imtiaz debuted as a director with the movie Socha Na Tha. After that, he directed films like Highway, Love Aaj Kal, Laila Majnu, Jab Harry Met Sejal. Chamkila, which starred Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh, was his last motion picture.
