Pradip Kurbah is a renowned Indian film director who hails from Shillong in Meghalaya
He makes his films in Khasi language and has played an important role in taking Khasi cinema to the international stage
His film “Ha Lyngkha Beng” has won three major awards of 2025 at the 47th Moscow International Film Festival. He has brought glory to India. This award was given by the Asian Cinema Promotion Network which honours the best films of the Asia Pacific region.

The film is the story of a remote village in Meghalaya which is deserted due to urban migration. The themes of loneliness, friendship and struggle of life have been presented sensitively in this film. It was shot in the area around Cherrapunji, which depicts the natural beauty and culture of Meghalaya.
Pradip Kurbah did not have formal film education, he is a self-taught filmmaker. He started his career in 2013 with Ri: Homeland of Uncertainty, which won him his first National Film Award. After this, films like Onaatah (2016) and Lewduh have received international appreciation.
Kurbah has played an important role in presenting the language and culture on its true stage. His films not only entertain but also highlight social issues and the bravery of India.
