Inside Out 2 is a sequel to the 2015 hit about the inner workings of a young girl’s mind
Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” has emerged as the highest-grossing release of 2024 in North America, overtaking Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated “Dune: Part Two.” “Inside Out 2” achieved a remarkable feat by earning $29.1 million on Tuesday, June 18, marking the highest-grossing Tuesday ever for an animated film.

This success followed a record-breaking opening weekend, where the film grossed $155 million domestically, making it the biggest opening weekend of the year and the second-biggest for an animated film, trailing only “Incredibles 2”.

The film, directed by Kelsey Mann, continues the story of Riley as she navigates her teenage years with the help of her emotions. With a domestic total of $205.7 million so far, “Inside Out 2” has garnered critical acclaim, boasting a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 96% audience score.

“Dune: Part Two,” which previously held the title of the highest-grossing release of 2024 with an $82.5 million opening weekend, now stands in second place. Despite its strong start and a global haul nearing $600 million, “Dune: Part Two” was ultimately outpaced by the animated sequel in the North American market.
“Inside Out 2” not only marks a significant box office achievement for Pixar but also represents a notable comeback for the studio, which had faced challenges in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The success of this sequel hints at a promising future for Pixar’s continued storytelling and audience engagement.
