Vidya Balan, who debuted in the film industry with the film ‘Parineeta’, had earlier made her acting debut with the Bengali film ‘Bhalo Theko‘. Vidya Balan, who did not look back after the success of the film ‘Parineeta’ and has completed 20 years of her career in the film industry, is in the headlines due to the film ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar‘. Here are the highlights of the journalist’s conversation with Vidya Balan–

What was the reason for signing the film ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’?

When the producer-director of this film approached me for this film, it took some time for all of us to sit together and talk. I was stunned when I heard the narration. I realized that the relationship between husband and wife is very delicate, complex and loving. Especially in urban life, there are many reasons for mutual discord between them. I was touched by the conflict between husband and wife and the reality of meeting hearts. I liked the story and my character.

How was the experience of working with Prateek Gandhi?

When I was told that Pratik Gandhi would be my co-actor, I was very happy. I had seen his film ‘Scam 1992’. I remembered his natural acting very well. I was very happy to know that I have to work in this film with a serious actor. I don’t believe in junior-senior terms in the field of acting because you may have worked for 10 years, but what heights of acting you touched in those 10 years is reflected in your performance. Prateek has given at least 15 years to theater in his career spanning 20 years. Theater experience matters a lot. The experience of working with him in the film was very fun and memorable.

How should the relationship between husband and wife be?

It is very difficult to tell. Every couple has different thoughts and opinions. Sometimes this relationship is not 100% correct. It is often seen that couples who have rift or distance also behave normally in front of people.

Nowadays, people are talking and hearing about ‘open relationships’. What do you have to say about this ‘Urban Concept’?

I don’t believe in this at all. I am a woman with modern thinking, but marital relations on moral values matter a lot especially in our country. Would I like to see my husband or partner in another relationship? This is not possible for me.

Is there something about you that most people don’t know?

Only close ones know such things. I don’t detangle my hair very often because my hair gets tangled a lot. I comb my hair only when it’s at the cost of my life. Only my family knows this.

Which is your favorite character?

I am fortunate that I got very strong characters, which I played to the best of my ability. I liked my character in the film ‘Ishqiya‘. How she uses her brutal beauty to fool two men is not understood till the end of the film. My character in the film ‘Dirty Picture‘ was based on actress Silk Smita. An actress who lived life on her own terms, considered life not sorrow but happiness. In reality, we get to see many forms of a woman. How courageous was my character in the film ‘Kahaani’. All these characters gave me a new height in life. Life is not always in our favor, but by struggling, victory over life can be achieved, these characters of films taught me this.

Did Siddharth Roy Kapur ever give you any tips for any character?

I keep them informed about my films, but till now this has never happened. Well, this is a difficult task for them.

What would you say to save marital relationships?

To keep relationships safe at all costs, it would be wrong to keep carrying them under compulsion. Keep your marital relationship as simple as possible. I think there should be no ego in relationships. Many times ego conflict spoils relationships. I believe in live in the moment. Enjoying every moment is important not only in marriage but in every relationship.
