Is Joker Folie à Deux an Ode to its prequel of the DC Comics?
When Joker was released in 2019, the makers did not have any plans to bring out a sequel to this highest grossing film. It was always intended to be a standalone film. But, before the release of the movie, director Todd Phillips mentioned that if the movie was a hit and Joaquin would be interested, they might think about producing a second part of this dark movie which is a part of the DC Extended Universe under DC Comics.
All the DC fans know that though Joker and The Batman are related to each other, but the movie Joker has no direct connection to The Batman in this series. Joker Folie à Deux explicitly covers the dark journey of a psychologically challenged man, raises a hue and cry in the society after going through multiple failures in life and being disregarded in the society.
Joaquin Phoenix plays the role of Arthur Fleck, who loves to hide behind the face of a clown after being unloved and put down by the society several times, forcing him to turn into a criminal under the persona of a Joker. Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Queen, played by Lady Gaga, a doctor of the psychological ward, who was treating Arthur under her wing, falls in love with Joker being obsessed by the character and secretly sets him free to create a pandemonium.
Produced by Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper, Joker Folie à Deux has been directed by Todd Phillips and co-written by Todd and Scott Silver. The movie stars Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Steve Coogan, Brenden Gleeson and Catherine Keener. The movie is scheduled to release on 4th October by Warner Bros Pictures.
