Kamal Haasan stated that there has always been ‘open’ competition between him and Rajinikanth, but there is no ‘envy’.
Kamal Haasan, who is preparing for his major release Indian 2, recently discussed the potential of an on-screen reunion with Rajinikanth in an interview. He was asked if the two legends will share screen space or make cameo cameos in one other’s films in the near future.
Kamal Haasan replied, “It’s not a new combination. We have made numerous films together. We then decided not to work together. We’re not like two competitors. We had the same mentor. Unlike anywhere else, competition exists openly. But there is no envy, and there are two distinct roads.” The Hey Ram actor went on, “We also never make snide remarks about each other.” We made this decision in our twenties; we haven’t gotten any older or wiser since.”
Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth have appeared together in nearly 16 films, including Apoorva Raagangal, Aval Appadithan, 16 Vayathinile, Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu, Thillu Mullu, and Ninaithale Inikkum. They were last seen in the 1985 Hindi film Geraftaar, which co-starred Amitabh Bachchan. Since then, they have not collaborated again. However, they have a friendly connection and frequently attend each other’s events to show solidarity.
Last year, the production company Lyca Productions posted a few photos of the two actors on its official X account. The photos show Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth having a good laugh together. They can be seen hugging one another. After 21 years, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth returned to the same studio to film Indian 2 and Thalaivar170, respectively.
Indian 2 is a remake of the 1996 film Indian. Kamal Haasan and filmmaker S Shankar reunited for this flick. Produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies Indian 2 will be released worldwide on July 12, 2024, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
