Introduction
The first season of Kleo, Directed by Isabel Braak and Nina Vukovic, was well-received by critics and audiences worldwide. It went on to win numerous prizes, including the Grimme-Preis in the Fiction category, two German Television prizes for Best Drama Series and Best Actress (Jella Haase), and a nomination for the Critics Choice Award in the USA.
Plot
Kleo, a former East German spy, is determined to retrieve and destroy the red suitcase once and for all. Sven vows to do all in his power to earn Kleo’s forgiveness and work with her again. It’s clear that she provides him an adrenaline boost in his employment as a police officer. The contents of the red suitcase play an important role in the reorganisation of Germany and Europe following the Cold War, so it’s no surprise that the KGB and CIA are interested in it as well. Both secret agencies are after Kleo, who is at the centre of all the activity. But there’s more: although young spy controls Europe’s future, she’s being forced to confront her own history more than she’d want.
