Lokesh Kanagaraj’s critique of Shankar’s Indian 2 on X sparked widespread criticism.
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who previously collaborated with Kamal Haasan on their blockbuster film Vikram, took to X to compliment the actor’s latest flick Indian 2. However, given that the Shankar-directed film has received widespread criticism since its premiere, Lokesh Kanagaraj was chastised for praising it.
When Lokesh Kanagaraj shared the post, many people swamped his comments section. One admirer commented, “How can you offer this review? Loki Naa.” Someone else chuckled: “Looks like someone showed him Indian 1996 again … with Indian 2 title card and credits.” One person said, “We were not ready to wait.”
Another chastised him for appreciating the film’s music, saying, “scintillating background score for the picture really dont make jokes like this again.” An X user commented, “Vikram’s maker promoting Indian 2 is the worst thing I watched today. You may be a Kamal fan, Lokesh, but this is extremely terrible.” Some simply wanted updates on Coolie or sequels to flicks such as Kaithi and Vikram.
Indian 2 is a sequel to Shankar and Kamal Haasan‘s 1996 film, Indian. While the original from the 1990s was a huge success and is today regarded as one of the best films in the director’s career, the sequel failed to live up to critics’ and viewers’ expectations. Siddharth and Rakul Preet Singh also starred, with Kamal reprising his role as Senapathy. The film finished with a promo for Indian 3, featuring Kamal and Kajal Aggarwal.
