Manorathangal has some standout segments, some that are decent and others that fall short
“Manorathangal,” an anthology streaming series on ZEE5, pays tribute to the legendary M.T. Vasudevan Nair, with star-studded performances by Mammootty, Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, and Parvathy Thiruvothu.
The series, which features six different stories, is directed by renowned filmmakers like Priyadarshan and Santosh Sivan. Despite the impressive cast and the source material, the series has received mixed reviews.
The anthology stands out in segments like “Shilalikhitam” by Priyadarshan, which delves into human nature with a sharp, evocative narrative. On the other hand, some episodes, such as “Abhyam Theedi Veendum” and “Kadalkkaattu,” fall short, lacking the emotional depth that Nair’s writing usually embodies.
Kamal Haasan introduces each segment with reflective commentary, but these intros have been criticized for dampening the immersive experience rather than enhancing it. While the series has moments of brilliance, its unevenness is noticeable, making it a mixed bag overall.
