The situation has made Irene rather sullen and has led her to literally play with fire. Like her grandfather before her, who burned all the family possessions before being forced into a camp, she one day burns her mother’s personal photographs. She and her boyfriend Luke then hit the road to San Francisco. En route, they meet their politically active friends Aura and Mark. They have no idea that Mark is carrying explosives. During the journey, the couples constantly bicker until Aura and Irene set off on their own to visit the site where their parents were imprisoned. Once there, they meet up with an elderly woman who has lived there since the war ended. Once again Irene starts playing with fire, but this ultimately leads her to a personal healing experience.
