Jim Montgomery, an out-of-work machinist, is convicted of murder on circumstantial evidence. But his cell mate, Bill Hawkins (William Wade), takes pity on him and helps him to escape. Jim disguises himself and becomes a factory superintendent. He also falls in love with the owner’s daughter, Mollie Bryan (Grace Darmond). Detective Kearney (John Charles), upset over Jim’s escape, paroles Hawkins so that he will lead him to his quarry. When Hawkins and Jim do get in touch, Hawkins offers to find the real murderer. He finds the culprit, but is unable to bring him to Jim before he is corned by the detective. Desperate, the wanted man shoves his hand, with its telltale fingerprints, into the machinery. But Hawkins comes through with the killer, the detective backs off, and Mollie stands by her disabled lover. Curiously, the part of Jim was played by an actor named Frederick Hand.
