Lovers separated in Paris reunite years later after their lives have taken sordid turns., Two lovers flee their small village and are reunited in the big city in this romantic drama. Marise (Enid Bennett) is the cobbler’s daughter who loves the mayor’s son Bobo (Ramon Novarro). He becomes a petty thief while she fends off lecherous advances from slimy strangers. Marise hides Bobo from the police before he makes his escape into the sewer. Marise is hit with a bullet intended for Bobo and is hospitalized, and the two rural rubes make plans to leave the city that has brought them so much unhappiness.
