Convinced the town “jinx” has designs on his sweetheart, a jealous seal hunter has the guy join him on an Arctic trek, only to have the rival prove himself a true friend when he saves the hunter’s life in the midst of icebound disaster in this Newfoundland melodrama shot on location., A luckless sailor is coerced by a woman he fancies into going on a seal-hunting expedition to the Arctic, where he encounters problems with the elements and another shipmate who is also in love with the woman. The production is noteworthy as Canada’s first talking motion picture and for an explosion that sank the ship carrying the film crew, killing more than 20, including producer-director Varick Frissell.
