Nana Patekar on Tanushree Dutta’s sexual harassment allegations against him

Nana Patekar’s response comes after years of silence on the matter

In a recent statement, veteran actor Nana Patekar addressed the sexual harassment allegations made against him by actress Tanushree Dutta, which surfaced during the #MeToo movement in 2018. Patekar, speaking to the press, dismissed the allegations as baseless, emphasizing that he harbors no anger towards Dutta and remains steadfast in his innocence.

The allegations date back to a 2008 incident on the set of the film “Horn Ok Pleassss.” Dutta claimed that Patekar behaved inappropriately during a dance sequence, leading her to walk off the set and eventually leave the film industry. Patekar consistently denied these accusations, describing them as “a lie is a lie”.

In his recent comments, Patekar reiterated his stance, stating, “Why should I be angry? I am not angry at all. I am just clarifying my position. A lie is a lie.” He laughed off the allegations, maintaining his composure and stressing his commitment to the truth.

The case saw significant legal developments. Initially, Dutta filed a complaint against Patekar, which prompted an investigation. However, in 2019, the Mumbai police closed the case, citing a lack of evidence to substantiate her claims.

Patekar’s response comes after years of silence on the matter, reflecting a mix of frustration and resolve to clear his name. He asserted that the allegations have not impacted his professional life significantly and that he continues to focus on his work and philanthropic efforts.

The #MeToo movement in India saw many high-profile cases, and the Patekar-Dutta controversy was among the most discussed, highlighting issues of power dynamics and the treatment of women in Bollywood.

Despite the closure of the case, the conversation around it remains a significant chapter in the ongoing dialogue about workplace harassment and gender equality in India.
