In a recent interview, Naseeruddin Shah discussed his opinions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ascent to power for the third time.
Naseeruddin Shah has stated that following the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Narendra Modi will take office as India’s prime minister for a third time. The seasoned actor stated in a recent interview with The Wire that he hopes to see PM Modi don a skullcap to demonstrate to Indian Muslims that he has “no aversion” towards them.
“It is depressing, but not surprising,” Naseeruddin Shah responded when questioned about the lack of Muslim representation in the Modi 3.0 cabinet, which is a first in Indian history. “There appears to be a deep hate of Muslims. There is a degree of anxiety among the Muslims in the nation, according to former president Hamid Ansari. It is not something that Muslims or Hindus alone can accomplish; it is something we just need to get there. It is a task that requires our joint effort.”
“Modi seems to like headgear,” Naseeruddin Shah continued, expressing his candid political opinions as usual. “Sometimes, I wish he would don a skullcap. All one would have to do is don a skullcap. It is difficult to forget his refusal to wear a skullcap at a function (in 2011), when one was given to him by the maulvis. That would be a sign that he still loves you, though, if he did. We belong to the same nation, you and I. I’m not against you at all. That would be very beneficial, in my opinion, if he could persuade the Muslims in this nation.”
Following the founding Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, PM Modi is the second Indian leader to be elected to a third consecutive term. On June 5, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) overwhelmingly approved a resolution designating Narendra Modi as its leader. On June 9, he took the oath of office as PM.
