What if the South had won the Civil War and slavery had never been abolished? That is the provocative premise of this satirical mockumentary from writer-director Kevin Willmott. Greg Kirsch, Renee Patrick, Molly Graham, William Willmott., Assistant professor at the University of Kansas Kevin Willmott directs the mockumentary CSA: Confederate States of America, produced in part by the National Black Programming Consortium. The film is a political satire examining what the country would be like if the South had won the Civil War. Using a style based on Ken Burns’ popular Civil War series on PBS, the faux documentary special is broadcast on “Confederate Television.” Willmott rewrites history as if the South had met with victory at Gettysburg and institutionalized slavery had lived on to contemporary times. CSA was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004 as part of the American Spectrum program.
