The only place in the US that is spared the devastation is Albany, New York, so the survivors get into two landcrafts that look like tanks and begin their long, terrifying journey. Along the way they pick up a young woman and a young boy. The travelers then endure many hardships including huge scorpions, man-eating roaches, horrific electrical storms, and renegade hillbillies. They also make it through a massive tidal wave two miles away from their final destination. As they roll into town, the travelers are made most welcome.
