A young girl goes through a hard time as her parents divorce and her best friend dies suddenly, leading her to acquire a strange friendship with a middle aged woman., Tense thriller about a married woman, Leah Garr (Meredith Baxter), who wants to leave town in order to start a new job and possibly a new life, a plan which her husband Marcus (Tom Amandes) does not endorse at all. When their daughter Robin (Evan Rachel Wood) returns from summer camp, Leah has left for Denver and a strange woman, Dorothy McIntyre (Diana Scarwid), is trying to befriend Robin and Marc. It is almost too late when Robin realises that Dorothy is after much more than just friendship., A loving woman, helpful friend, and seemingly ideal neighbour, Dorothy becomes a wonderful companion for Robin Garr. While Robin is at camp for the summer, her friend Amelia drowns trying to swim in the lake. This traumatic experience leaves Robin vulnerable and lonely at a time when, Robin’s parents, Leah and Marcus are trying to mend their own relationship. Dorothy seems to be the saviour for the Garr family, spending time with Robin when her mother can not., Thriller about a family whose lives are disrupted by an outsider’s influence. As a couple attempt to mend their relationship, their daughter seeks solace, and bonds with the seemingly friendly next-door neighbour after one of the girl’s friends drowns in an accident. However, haunted by the loss of her own daughter, the neighbour’s behaviour soon becomes menacing and obsessive., With her parents on the verge of divorce, young Robin Garr (Evan Rachel Wood)does not any more stress in her life. Unfortunately, while attending summer camp, Robin’s best friend, a strangely melancholy girl named Amelia (Katie Booze-Mooney) accidentally drowns, a tragedy for which Robin holds herself responsible. It is while in this emotionally fragile state that Robin befriends a seemingly benign middle-aged lady named Dorothy (Diana Scarwid), who ends up being hired as a nanny by Robin’s mother Leah (Meredith Baxter). Soon thereafter, Leah begins to wonder if inviting Dorothy into her household was a good idea: The woman proves to have an obsession about neatness, and her outward gentility masks the soul of a control freak.
