Part 1 of two., Matthew and Sully find themselves at odds after finding out that before her death, Miss Olive had requested that Matthew take over her estate and inherit her 200-head herd of cattle. Sully doesn’t believe that Matthew has what it takes to lead the cattle from Mexico, where Miss Olive had lived before she passed away, to their home in Colorado Springs. The tension between them makes the journey that much harder, and Matthew must contend with stampeding cattle, scorpion stings, prairie fires, and other trail dangers., Matthew ignores Sully’s advice about the land as he tries to prove his worth as a trail boss. But his inexperience endangers the lives of all those around him and leads to a stampede in which hundreds of cattle are lost.
