Set in the throes of 1984, this gay coming-of-age story was screened as part of the American Spectrum at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival. Director David Moreton’s film focuses on Eric, a 17-year-old boy living in a small town in Ohio. Getting a summer job in the kitchen of a large amusement park, he meets Rod, a hunky kid with deep blue eyes. A puppy-love infatuation begins as Eric realizes that if he’s falling in love with a male, he must be gay. He tells no one — not his parents, his co-workers, not even his female best friend Maggie, who also has a secret crush on Eric. At the end of the summer, Eric and Rod consummate their relationship in one of the most graphic lovemaking scenes ever seen in independent cinema. When school starts up, Eric has grown from an introvert, looking to fit in, to a centered and well-adjusted young man.
