Old Grey Whistle Theft
Dougal is extremely enthusiastic about the Eurosong Contest, so Ted decides that he and Dougal will ‘borrow’ a turn from an old Eurosong hopeful and enter it as their own. Unfortunately, fate is waiting to throw a few bum notes into the deal…, It’s a nightmare Christmas when Father Ted and Father Dougal get lost in a department store’s vast lingerie department – only Ted’s quick thinking can save the church from another embarrassing scandal but the incident still has far-reaching and dangerous consequences…, Dougal (Ardal O’Hanlon) befriends delinquent, young Father Damien Lennon (Joe Rooney). Ted (Dermot Morgan) and Jack (Frank Kelly) travel to a barren picnic area, where they encounter an angry, foul-mouthed couple and the whistle-happy park ranger Benson (Mal Whyte). As Benson sleeps, Damien steals his whistle. Ted travels to town, where he meets villagers who are terrified and enraged at the news of the whistle theft. Damien gives the whistle to Dougal for safe-keeping. When Ted finds it, he confronts Dougal, but Benson arrives with a police officer before Ted gets an explanation from Dougal. Attempting to save himself and/or Dougal, after Dougal tells everyone the whistle is in Ted’s pocket, Ted runs out of the room and concocts a bizarre story about an orphan boy, a fallen tree, and horse-wrangling to explain why he has the whistle. Damien is outed as the whistle thief, but not before Ted tells his strange tale. Dougal learns that being cool isn’t always the most desirable thing., Ted goes on a picnic, Mr Benson’s whistle is stolen and Dougal learns an important lesson about true friendship., Father Ted’s picnic in the park is no picnic when his peace is disturbed by a whistle-blowing groundskeeper., The arrival of rebellious young priest Father Damien Lennon coincides with the theft of the whistle belonging to Mr Benson, the picnic area supervisor. As law and order breaks down on Craggy Island, the local police force, drawing on the sort of resources Morse and Frost would envy, reaches one conclusion: a priest done it., An eccentric Irish priest is banished to a rain-swept island to live with two clerical misfits and their tea-hawking housekeeper in this charming sitcom, which debuted in Britian in 1995.
