A traveling musician settles in a small town community, becomes a scoutmaster and courts a local woman. Based on MacKinlay Kantor’s book “God and My Country.”, In this Walt Disney film, a bunch of Boy Scouts luck out when worn-out jazz saxophonist Lemuel Siddons (Fred MacMurray) leaves the music scene behind him and becomes their new scout leader. His love of kids soon captures the attention of Vida Downey (Vera Miles) and a happy romance ensues., Lem Siddons is part of a travelling band who has a dream of becoming a lawyer. Deciding to settle down, he finds a job as a stockboy in the general store of a small town. Trying to fit in, he volunteers to become scoutmaster of the newly formed Troop 1. Becoming more and more involved with the scout troop, he finds his plans to become a lawyer being put on the back burner, until he realises that his life has been fulfilled helping the youth of the small town., A travelling musician settles down in a 1930s small town and starts up a boy scout troop, falls in love and generally has a swell time with his saxophone.
