The One Where No One’s Ready
Ross is in a hurry to get everyone dressed for an important banquet., Revolving around the simple premise of wanting to go out, this episode stands out for the way it realistically portrays how group inertia can slow you down. Ross (David Schwimmer) has an important museum function to go to and all the friends are supposed to come. Inevitably, nobody is ready to go when he is, and the likelihood that they will ever leave the building decreases by the punch line. Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Chandler (Matthew Perry) have an inane argument over borrowing each others things which leads to a more pointed — but no less funny — squabble over a chair. Sitting down in it together, Chandler fraudulently claims he is comfortable. Joey creepily replies, “Me too. In fact, I think I might be a little too comfortable.” Among the other reasons they don’t leave is that humus is spilled on Phoebe’s (Lisa Kudrow) dress and Monica (Courteney Cox) hears a possibly new message from Richard (Tom Selleck) on her answering machine. She then returns his call only to leave a horrible message on his machine which she attempts to erase, but makes it worse. There are also some delightful moments involving a glass of what may be fat. Suffice it to say Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) decides not to leave until Joey drinks the fat. This episode originally aired on November 26, 1996., Ross invites the friends to join him at a banquet where he’s being honoured, but when it’s time to leave none of them are ready, and Joey spills food on Phoebe’s outfit. Monica hears an old message on her machine from Richard and thinks he wants to get back together.
