The One Where Rachel Has a Baby
Ross and Rachel arrive at the hospital., Rachel’s painful labour continues as other pregnant women come and go. Inspired by their surroundings, Chandler and Monica find a caretaker’s cupboard in which to conceive a baby of their own. Posing as Dr Drake Ramoray, Joey reports back to Phoebe about handsome patient Cliff. And after Rachel’s baby is finally born, there’s a mix-up with an engagement ring., Part 1 of 2. Rachel goes into labour, while in the waiting room, Chandler tests Monica’s patience with his change of heart about starting a family and Phoebe flirts with a patient., The water has broken, and Rachel’s baby will arrive at any minute. As Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) moans over the fact that her hospital room may not be entirely private (if indeed a room opens up on time!), her mother, Mrs. Geller (Christina Pickles), makes a last-minute plea to Ross (David Schwimmer) — marry the girl! Meanwhile, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) continues to pine for Rachel, and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) has some palpitations of her own when she meets a handsome stranger. This episode originally aired as the first half of an hour-long special, but has since been released separately in syndication. (Note: Doug Looper’s role as Grant was cut from the broadcast version but restored on DVD.), Ross and Rachel arrive at the hospital. Ross’s mother Judy (Christina Pickles) gives a reluctant Ross his grandmother’s engagement ring so he can propose to Rachel. And Phoebe is attracted to a handsome patient, Cliff (Eddie McClintock).
