The One with All the Poker
When the girls lose money to the guys in a poker game they seek out Monica’s Aunt Iris (guest star Beverly Garland), a famous card player, for lessons in poker, and demand a rematch., The guys let the ladies in on a sacred ritual—their poker game. Meanwhile, Rachel has an interview with Saks., Tired of being referred to by customers as “Excuse me,” Rachel interviews for a job as an assistant buyer at Saks Fifth Avenue. She also sees another side of the usually docile Ross when the girls face the boys during a not-so-friendly game of poker., Centered around a poker game, episode 18 brings out the best and worst in all of the Friends leads. Jealous about the guys’ poker games, the girls want in on the action. The guys accept and treat them to a no holds barred, competitive game. The girls lose big and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) complains about how much of a jerk Ross (David Schwimmer) was being. Monica (Courteney Cox) agrees and is ribbed by Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), “Oh, hello, kettle? This is Monica. You’re black.” The girls decide to have a rematch and go to great lengths to improve their game — even getting help from Monica’s supposed card shark aunt, Iris. They still lose, but it is revealed that Monica — now outwardly wanting to win — may have gotten violent once in a game of Pictionary. Meanwhile, Rachel, wanting a new job, sends out her resumé and lands an interview with Saks Fifth Avenue — this, despite the fact that she spelled “computer” as “compuper” on her resumé. During their final poker game, Rachel receives some bad news about the job at Saks Fifth Avenue and takes her anger out in the poker game. She bluffs Ross into a hand with a lot of money on the table, and Ross — not wanting to hurt her feelings and with an obvious crush on her — lets her win. Or does he?
