Having a child can be a serious wake up call for anyone, and when director Andrew Nisker’s wife gave birth to a baby boy the filmmaker began to grow increasingly concerned about the state of our fragile planet. The rising levels of consumption within the average household correlates directly to the amount of waste we produce, and lately it seems that Mother Nature is being treated like a massive garbage dump. Now, in order to better understand precisely what happens with the waste produced by an average American family, Nisker recruits the Mcdonalds – just such a family – to save every piece of garbage they produce over the course of three months. The result is not only a very smelly garage, but also a film that forces us to look at the effects of our disposable, fast food lifestyles in very literal terms., A family keeps three months’ worth of garbage and learns just how much it amounts to in this documentary.
