Law of the Lawless

Everyone in the cast looks familiar in this yarn about a murder trial. Dale Robertson, Yvonne DeCarlo, William Bendix, Bruce Cabot, Barton MacLane, John Agar, Richard Arlen, Kent Taylor. Directed by William F. Claxton., Steve Fisher wrote this screenplay about an ex-gunman who, now a judge, presides over the trial of a gunfighter. The accused man’s father attempts to stir up the locals against the judge, but finds it difficult to wage his battle. Dale Robertson plays Judge Rogers while the rest of the cast is filled with such well-known veterans as William Bendix, Bruce Cabot, and Yvonne De Carlo. Director William F. Claxton’s Law of the Lawless is a rather unusual western, focusing more on dialague and story rather than on a simple premise loaded with action. Later, Claxton would go on to direct numerous television shows with similar themes of the human spirit or religious inspiration (Bonanza, This is the Life).
