It started as a 1960 Roger Corman horror comedy, filmed in two days; it then inspired a lavish 1982 Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Finally in 1986, Little Shop of Horrors (1960) graduated into a multimillion-dollar, all-star film musical. Rick Moranis plays nebbishy Seymour Krelborn, who works in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row. While his boss (Vincent Gardenia) bemoans the lack of business, Seymour seeks a way of bringing the shop — and himself — fame and fortune. He purchases a strange plant from an even stranger oriental street vendor (Vincent Wong), naming the plant after his girlfriend Audrey (Ellen Greene, one of the few carry-overs from the Broadway version). Gradually, Seymour learns to his horror that “Audrey II” (given the voice of R&B performer Levi Stubbs) craves blood and flesh. With each of Audrey II’s “FEEED MEEE”s, Seymour must scare up human food to satisfy the plant’s appetite. One such victim is dentist Steve Martin, a leather-jacketed Elvis type (the dentist’s ultra-masochistic patient played by Jack Nicholson in the 1960 original is here impersonated by Bill Murray). The lighthearted tone of the film darkens as Audrey II grows in monstrosity, but the unhappy ending of the Broadway version is avoided herein., A skid row flower shop employs a nerdy attendant who unwittingly buys a man-eating plant that asks to be fed., Tuneful, surreal black comedy about a young man who finds and cares for a seemingly ordinary plant in the basement of his shop, only to have it develop into a maniacal, bloodthirsty monster bent on world domination., A nerdy florist sees his chance to beat his macho dentist rival to the girl when he discovers a bloodthirsty man-eating plant in his shop., A sci-fi horror flick mixed with a musical, Rick Moranis stars as the flower-shop assistant who’s latest floral addition is Audrey II (voiced by Levi Stubbs) whose growth is stimulated by blood. With Ellen Greene as the colleague he yearns for and Steve Martin as her sadistic dentist boyfriend, Frank Oz’s celebrated musical mixes dark humour, great songs and wonderful acting to create a cinematic classic. Shown with in-vision signing for the deaf and hard of hearing on terrestrial digital television, Roger Corman’s cult original about a meek florist out on a killing spree to satisfy the voracious appetite of his sentient man-eating plant. Also featuring a young Jack Nicholson in a toothy bit-part., Extravagant comedy musical about a giant talking plant which feeds on human blood. It is nerd Seymour who discovers and must do battle with the gruesome greenery. The cast is bolstered by a series of cameo appearances by some top comedy stars., Black comedy about a lowly flower-shop assistant who nurtures a carnivorous plant with a taste for human flesh. This cult movie was famously shot in two days by low-budget horror director Roger Corman and includes an early role for Jack Nicholson as a masochistic dental patient., Some of the funniest people in the world star in this anarchic tale of a man-eating pot plant, including Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, James Belushi, John Candy and Bill Murray. Feed me, Seymour!
