Mr. Monk and the Very, Very Old Man
Glenne Headly makes her first appearance as Karen Stottlemeyer, the woman whom Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) disdainfully dismisses as “my hippie wife.” While filming a documentary about Miles Holling (Patrick Cranshaw), the world’s oldest man, Karen is thrown for a loss when Holling dies in bed. Though her husband is certain that Holling succumbed to natural causes (he was, after all, just one day shy of his 115th birthday!), Karen is convinced that the man was murdered–and she wants Monk (Tony Shalhoub) to prove it. In the course of his investigation, Monk uncovers a surprising link between Holling’s death and a hit-and-run fatality that occurred five years earlier–the only unsolved case in Captain Stottlemeyer’s career., Stottlemeyer is crashing at Monk’s and he hates it, but the detective’s cunning must be contagious as he cracks the murder of the oldest man., Stottlemeyer’s wife suspects foul play in the death of one of her documentary subjects – the world’s oldest man. He dismisses her concerns, but Monk checks things out., Stottlemeyer shrugs off his wife’s suspicion that her documentary subject was murdered. That is, until Monk supports her contention after surveying the victim’s living quarters., Stottlemeyer is thrown out by his wife and reluctantly goes to stay with Adrian. They both have difficulty adjusting to the arrangement, and find themselves permanently at loggerheads – until two very different murder investigations prompt them to set aside their differences., Stottlemeyer shrugs off his wife’s suspicion that her documentary subject—the world’s oldest man—was murdered. That is, until Monk supports her contention after surveying the victim’s living quarters.
