Mr. Monk Goes to the Theater
Amy Sedaris returns as Gail Fleming, the ditzy actress sister of Monk’s nurse-assistant Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram). In the middle of a stage performance, Gail’s leading man Hal Duncan (Marc Vann) is stabbed to death by what was supposed to be a retractable prop knife. Sharona must now not only cope with the possibility that her sister is a murderer, but also with the unexpected visit of her overbearing mother Cheryl (Betty Buckley). In his efforts to clear Gail’s name, Monk signs up for a troublesome “speed dating” service–and also confronts his mortal fear of crowds when pressed into service as an actor!, Monk and Sharona investigate after Sharona’s sister, an actress, stabs a fellow actor during a play with what she thought was a retractable knife. In fact, the prop turns out to be all too real and the actor ends up dead. While attempting to nab the real killer, Monk is cast in the dead man’s part, and suffers a case of stage fright., Sharona’s sister Gail lands a part in a local play that any actress would kill for. But when the actor playing her love interest dies on stage, the police think she’s taken her role too far., When a leading lady stabs dead her co-star on stage in full view of hundreds, it is curtains down on her career. But Monk does not believe the spectacle., Sharona asks Adrian to clear her sister Gail of murdering a fellow actor who died on stage in full view of a packed theatre audience. Determined to help, he agrees to do whatever it takes to unmask the real killer – but does not count on being recruited to tread the boards in place of the victim., Adrian Monk is a highly gifted detective whose career is jeopardised by his overwhelming fear of germs, crowds, small places, and almost everything else…(although he’s making progress on milk). Monk’s disorder was triggered by the murder of his beloved wife, Trudy, which continues to haunt him as the only unsolved mystery in his career. Ordered to take a leave of absence from the police department, Monk hires Sharona, a nurse who helps him try to get reinstated on the force, and in the process, becomes an unlikely Dr. Watson to his Sherlock Holmes. When the police department find themselves unable to crack a high-profile case, they have no choice but to bring back the only man for the job…phobias and all.
