Mr. Monk Meets Dale the Whale

But to prove it, he must work out how his overweight suspect even left his bed., Monk (Tony Shalhoub) suspects that 800-pound tycoon Dale “The Whale” Biederbeck (Adam Arkin) is the murderer of one Judge Lavinio. But how can this be? Dale the Whale is so obese that he can’t even get out of his bed, much less leave his room. Also, it looks as though Monk is acting on a personal vendetta against Biederbeck, stemming from a devastating lawsuit a few years before. Even so, Monk is obsessed (surprise, surprise!) with proving Biederbeck’s guilt, and his nurse-assistant Sharona (Bitty Schram) offers her services to prove Monk right–even if it kills her. With this episode, Max Morrow joins the cast as Sharona’s son Benjy., An obese tycoon who once sued Monk’s wife for libel is accused of murdering a judge., Adrian Monk is a highly gifted detective whose career is jeopardised by his overwhelming fear of germs, crowds, small places, and almost everything else…(although he’s making progress on milk). Monk’s disorder was triggered by the murder of his beloved wife, Trudy, which continues to haunt him as the only unsolved mystery in his career. Ordered to take a leave of absence from the police department, Monk hires Sharona, a nurse who helps him try to get reinstated on the force, and in the process, becomes an unlikely Dr. Watson to his Sherlock Holmes. When the police department find themselves unable to crack a high-profile case, they have no choice but to bring back the only man for the job…phobias and all.
