Jess talks Schmidt into going out on the hunt for one-night stands with her as she is single on Valentine’s Day for the first time in six years and refuses to stay at home alone. Cece points out that Jess is not capable of having sex without getting emotionally attached, but Jess won’t be dissuaded and deliberately chooses a guy she has nothing in common with for her casual encounter. Julia’s devotion to her career gets in the way when Nick attempts to organise a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, and Winston gets the wrong idea when Shelby invites him over to her place., Jess convinces Schmidt to help her land a stranger on her first Valentine’s day without a date. Nick spends more time with Julia’s assistant than Julia herself, ruining his special plans for the day., Schmidt agrees to be Jess’ wingman when she sets out to have a one-night stand on Valentine’s Day. Elsewhere, Nick’s romantic plans for the holiday are foiled when he finds himself spending more time with Julia’s male assistant than with her.
