Three points for that title alone! But Night of the Creeps has a lot more going for it; this maiden directorial effort by Fred Dekker is a dextrous amalgam of sci-fi, horror, and laughter. Nerdish college freshmen Jason Lively and Steve Marshall pledge to a fraternity, hoping to scope out the best chicks. As part of their initiation, the boys must sneak into the college’s medical center. Here they find the frozen remains of a boy who swallowed an alien slug (that’s right, operator) back in 1959. The corpse thaws, the space slugs are unleashed on campus, and…..AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! You gotta love a low-budget scarefest that names all of its characters after horror-film directors: Romero, Cronenberg, Cameron, Landis, Hooper, Raimi, and on into the night. And what would a “retro” terror flick from the 1980s be without the supporting-cast presence of the ubiquitous Dick Miller?, A plague of aliens turn a college student population into staggering, brain-hungry zombies., Prom night becomes the center of an all out parasitic alien invasion as zombie slugs begin taking control of townspeople by entering through the mouth. If you scream, you are dead., Fred Dekker’s horror-comedy stars Jason Lively, Steve Marshall and Jill Whitlow. The action starts back in 1959, when an alien spacecraft accidentally ejects a capsule which lands on Earth. It’s found by a college student out on a date, but a serial killer intervenes before the contents of the extraterrestrial container can do much damage. Twenty-seven years later another love-struck student, Chris Romero (Lively) is set to belatedly unleash an alien invasion when he co-opts his friend JC (Marshall) into joining a fraternity at Corman University in order to get Cynthia Cronenberg (Whitlow) to notice him. The two men are tasked with stealing a corpse and, unfortunately, the one they pick from a cryogenics lab is host to slug-like creatures that escaped the aliens’ canister back in ’59, and which turn their victims into the living dead…, An infected body frozen in 1959 is thawed by accident by two daft college kids, who then turn the whole of their school into killer zombies., Classic chiller with The Fog’s Tom Atkins. Two students steal a corpse from their campus medical facility, inadvertently releasing alien parasites that turn people into bloodthirsty zombies., Three university students and a detective go up against slug-like extraterrestrials., Three college kids and a detective up against slug-like extraterrestrials., Three college kids and a detective up against slug-like extraterrestrials. Jason Lively. J.C.: Steve Marshall. Cynthia: Jill Whitlow. Cameron: Tom Atkins. Landis: Wally Taylor. Raimi: Bruce Solomon. Coroner: Vic Polizos. Fred Dekker directed.
