Combining influences from Tex Avery cartoons to Sam Raimi horror movies to 1940s B-movies, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen followed up the stylish film noir of their debut, Blood Simple (1984), with this frantic screwball comedy. H.I. “Hi” McDonnough (Nicholas Cage) is a philosophical but slightly dim career criminal who has been arrested so often that he gets to know “Ed,” short for Edwina (Holly Hunter), the officer who takes his mug shots. Hi takes a shine to Ed and promises to go straight if she marries him. She accepts, and they move to the Arizona desert, where Hi holds down a factory job and blissfully watches the sunsets with Ed. Their serenity is shattered when the couple decides that they want a child and discover that, as Hi puts it, “Ed’s womb was a rocky place where my seed could find no purchase.” (One of the film’s many delights is Hi’s unexpectedly flowery dime-novel narration.) Ed goes into a severe depression until she sees an item in the news. Nathan Arizona (Trey Wilson), owner of a chain of unpainted furniture stores, has become the father of quintuplets, and he and his wife joke that they now have more children than they know what to do with. In what seems like a perfect “helps you, helps me” situation, Hi and Ed kidnap one of the Arizona infants, figuring that they’ll have a baby and the Arizonas will have less of a burden., Widely celebrated, laugh out loud comedy starring multi-award winners Nicholas Cage and John Goodman. An ex-con and cop couple help themselves to a baby…, When a childless couple of an ex-con and an ex-cop decide to help themselves to one of another family’s quintuplets, their lives get more complicated than they anticipated., Well-meaning but witless ex-con ‘H’ McDunnough causes pandemonium when he steals one of Arizona’s famous newborn quintuplets for his infertile wife., A dimwitted criminal kidnaps a baby that belongs to a wealthy local businessman in order to make his depressed wife who is unable to have children of her own happy. Soon he finds himself on the run from the police, old criminal pals, and a mysterious motorcycle-riding madman., A dimwitted criminal kidnaps a baby that belongs to a wealthy local businessman in order to make his depressed wife who is unable to have children of her own happy. Soon he finds himself on the run from the police, old criminal acquaintances, and a mysterious motorcycle-riding madman., While in prison, HI McDonnough falls in love with one of the guards. When he’s released they try to have a baby. But she can’t, so they steal one. They take one from a famous set of quintuplets, but not without a struggle. The film follows our determined couple as they enlist the help of the usual Coen Brothers crew of oddballs to try and keep the baby. Coen fans rate this very highly; Cage is less lugubrious than normal and there are a lot of laughs., Well-meaning but witless ex-con ‘H’ McDunnough causes pandemonium when he steals one of Arizona’s famous newborn quintuplets for his infertile wife. Comedy., This cartoon-like comedy tells the story of a convict and a cop who marry and then decide they need a baby, whatever what it takes., Fast-paced farce about an unlikely pair who go to extreme lengths to have a child. When an incompetent robber marries a prison officer, they discover that they are infertile. In order to appease his wife’s longings for a child, the man steals one of a set of quintuplets, but mayhem ensues when the child’s rich father sends a rabbit-shooting bounty hunter after the kidnapper., Crazy comedy by Joel and Ethan Coen starring Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter as a couple who, unable to have children of their own, kidnap one of tycoon Trey Wilson’s quintuplets and become caught up in a zany spiral of crime and farce.
