Actor_list_: Abhay Deol, Satish Kaushik, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Mohammed Faisal, A young man meets hitchhikers while en route to a museum., A young man without a purpose finds one bringing movies to the people in this comedy drama from Indian filmmaker Dev Benegal. Vishnu (Abhay Deol) is a guy in his mid-twenties who hasn’t figured out what he wants to do with his life yet, though he’s certain he doesn’t want to follow in the footsteps of his father, who peddles hair oil for a living. Years ago, Vishnu’s uncle operated a traveling movie theater, driving his truck through rural villages and setting up his makeshift cinema wherever he could find a paying audience. The uncle is donating his truck and projection equipment to a museum, and Vishnu has been drafted into taking the machine across the country to its new home. The rattletrap vehicle is a shadow of its former self, but as Vishnu rolls through the countryside it still attracts attention, and he picks up a handful of interesting hitchhikers en route, among them a young boy running away from home (Mohammed Faizal Usmani), a joyously opinionated old man (Satish Kaushik), and a beautiful woman (Tannishtha Chatterjee). And though the projectors don’t run much better than the truck, Vishnu finds there are still plenty of people interested in watching the old movies he’s carrying, and he unwittingly finds himself following his uncle’s footsteps as a gypsy showman. Road, Movie was an official selection at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival., A young man’s journey across the mythic Indian landscape becomes a life changing odyssey., Living in a small landlocked town in northern India, Vishnu may not know what he wants to do in life, but he certainly knows what he doesn’t want to do – and that’s to join his father’s failing hair-oil business. Desperate to find an escape from a dreary future, Vishnu persuades a friend of his father’s to let him deliver the old man’s 1942 Chevy truck to the seaside museum to which it has been sold. Despite his father’s outrage at his son’s irresponsible behaviour, Vishnu sets off on his adventure across the harsh terrain of the Rajasthan desert. Along the way, a young runaway, a chatty old Jack-of-all-trades and a beautiful gypsy woman join Vishnu. Lost in the desert, without water and food, the journey turns dark when corrupt cops and a notorious bandit, who terrorises anyone who dares to take water from the wells that he controls, ambush them. Waylaid, Vishnu and his friends discover two old Victorian projectors in the back of the Chevy and realise that the old truck is in fact a touring cinema. And so, hoping to negotiate their release through entertaining their captors, they begin projecting the films they’ve found. Road, Movie thus combines director Dev Benegal’s fascination for tales from the open road with his great love of the cinema, and in so doing offers up a fresh alternative to standard Bollywood fare. The score is composed by Canadian musician Michael Brook, whose past works include collaborations with, among others, U Srinivas and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, as well as many film soundtracks.
