The Invid are repelled by Rick Hunter’s forces to the gates of Reflex Point., On the dark side of the moon, the last of Admiral Rick Hunter’s fleet emerges from hyperspace — except for Hunter’s ship, the SDF-3. With time being of the ultimate essence, the fleet can’t afford to wait for him, and the multitude of ships prepare to cloak themselves from the Invid protoculture sensors and launch their attack. On Earth, Scott Bernard and his group have rendezvoused with the fleet’s ground forces, which are preparing to launch the advance strike that will pave the way for the fleet’s invasion. The battle is soon underway, and in the carnage Marlene, newly aware of her Invid heritage, makes her way to the main hive to try to convince the Invid Regis that the destruction must not continue. When Sera and Corg bar her from passing, she transforms into an energy form — and leads her friends into the heart of the Invid hive.
